Welcome

Welcome to TekeliaKelly.com, a history project dedicated to “celebrating life through song”, and preserving 20th century classic American music, songwriters, and performers.
Tekelia Kelly.com is the rebirth of Tekelia Kelly’s vocal artistry, literary, and other creative works. Tekelia is a singer, songwriter, musician, recording artist, author, producer, publisher, and entertainer. She is also an engineer, educator, and entrepreneur heading Tekelia C. Kelly Enterprises.

Tekelia’s music portfolio includes world-wide published discography, as well as originally-written songs sang and played by her on the piano as far back as 1976. Tekelia played the violin for five years performing at the Memorial Auditorium in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and also has played the clarinet, drums, and guitar.
Tekelia’s originally-written songs are now copyrighted and published at BMI. Her rare and once unissued studio recordings can now be found at iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Myspace, and other music outlets. Click here for Tekelia’s Music Store.

Once a “Handy Theater Showstopper” at the historic Libertyland Theme Park in Memphis, Tennessee, Tekelia sang tunes like “Don’t Mean A Thing”by Duke Ellington and “I Got Love” by Melba Moore. Today Tekelia still sings lovely renditions of classic unforgettable songs that transcend time. Click here for Tekelia’s News.

Tekelia’s singing spans generations and genres of music—captivating audiences, and making both her and the music feel “timeless”. Her voice is beautiful and outstanding; words often used to also describe her presence.
Whether it’s jazz, show-tunes, the standards, pop, soul, gospel, spirituals, inspirational, patriotic, holiday, or an originally written song by Tekelia, she is sure to leave you “celebrating life through song” in a memorable way! About

The Recording Artist

Tekelia Kelly was signed as a recording artist with the legendary Sounds of Memphis Studios in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1980’s. In 2010, her recordings were released world-wide from the vault of Simply Grand Music in Memphis, Tennessee, and distributed by ACE Records in London, England.

Tekelia’s first recording “Because of You” was released in 2010 on the album “Steppin' Stone: The Xl And Sounds Of Memphis Story Volume 3”. Later her recordings “When You Look Inside”, “Tighter and Tighter”, “Into the Fire”, “In Some Ways”, and “Uninvited” were also released. Tekelia’s rare, and once unissued, studio recordings can now be found at iTunes, Amazon, Napster, Myspace, and other music outlets. With a “talent for business”, major creativity, and her very “hands-on” engineering technology skills, Tekelia records, edits, produces, and publishes her own music. She enjoys producing the music, like that you hear on her website, from her David’s Daughter Studio.

Tekelia is an “indie” artist. She loves to sing and record big band, jazz, standards, pop, and gospel music. She is known for singing songs made popular by Lena Horne, Diana Ross, Barbara Streisand, Whitney Houston, and CeCe Winans, to name a few. Tekelia sings with an orchestra, band, pianist, and background track accompaniment. She also sings songs acapella such as spirituals and anthems. The Entertainer

Lena Horne, Ella Fitzgerald, Karen Carpenter, Whitney Houston, Diana Ross and Barbara Streisand are just some of the great female vocal artists that Tekelia enjoys paying tribute to and showcasing as a Tribute Artist. In her one-woman shows and self-written musical “She Sings”, Tekelia reenacts classic American female entertainers. She weaves music history and “star-quality” showmanship seamlessly throughout her shows; while “celebrating life through song”--her passion and mission.

Tekelia’s shows preserve an era of female entertainment that is rarely seen today. Reminiscent of a time that was revolutionized by women’s fashions, music, decorum, education, work, and homemaking, Tekelia sings to celebrate the wonder of woman then and now. Her songlist is influenced by unforgettable songs, like “Chattanooga Choo-Choo, by The Andrew Sisters, and also Dorothy Dandridge; and “After You’ve Gone” by Chattanooga’s Blues Empress Bessie Smith. Both songs spotlight Tekelia’s hometown Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Tekelia has performed for numerous special events and occasions as a professional singer, songwriter, and actress. In 2012, she was cast for two scenes in the movie “42-The Jackie Robinson Story”, starring Harrison Ford and Chadwick Boseman . The movie was filmed in Chattanooga, Tennessee, at the historic Engel Stadium. While on the set of Southern Hollywood Events (SHE) Tekelia sang “The Way We Were”. After her applauded performance, she was told by SHE directors “You rocked the set with your talent”.

Tekelia has performed for Federal Express, Coca-Cola, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Legend Freedom Awards honoring Desmond Tutu and Barbara Jordan, and the Sisterhood Showcase in Memphis, Tennessee, honoring Susan Taylor of Essence Magazine. She also has performed for the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce Business Awards Breakfast and Expo, American Cancer Society’s Life Celebration Awards and Relay for Life, Girls’ Inc’s Unbought Unbossed Shirley Chisolm Award, the River Queen Cruise, as well as the world’s fair, television shows, national commemorations, theaters, sporting arenas, festivals, weddings, funerals, and church ceremonies.

Jennifer Holiday, Mavis Staples, Sybil Shephard, Patti Austin, Calvin Lockhart, and O'lander Draper are just some of the celebrities with whom Tekelia has shared the stage. A history-maker herself, the former Miss Black Chattanooga of Tennessee, performed at Chattanooga’s Tivoli Theatre and Memorial Auditorium. She is also one of Memphis, Tennessee’s original “music town” performers of the 1980’s; headlining at Libertyland and Beale Street, and appearing at the Orpheum Theatre, Peabody Hotel, and National Civil Rights Museum.
