2006 Christmas at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.

Shop Early for the Holidays and Help The Community!

It has been said that most of us are just one pay check away from being homeless.  This event is a proactive step towards stimulating socio-economic development in the community, and sustaining household and business income for community businesses.

Sisters In Business will host its "2nd Annual Holiday Shopping Showcase & Business Expo" on November 17, 2007 from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm at the Country Place Restaurant on Shallowford Road in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

This event will serve as a platform for empowering women-owned and small businesses in Chattanooga and surrounding areas.  It will offer a wonderful pre-holiday shopping experience for early shoppers and bargain seekers.

The event will also once again include a food drive and fundraiser for the Chattanooga Community Kitchen.  It t has been said that most of us are just one pay check away from being homeless.  This event is a proactive step towards stimulating socio-economic development in the community, and sustaining household and business income for community businesses.

Shown below is a group picuture of the children living in the Community Kitchen Family Housing and Learning Center (FHLC).  These children benefit directly from programs such as SAFAH (Supplemental Assistance for Facilities to Assist the Homeless) and FHLC—they’re the children helped by your heart of giving.

More About Business Expo

Earn Extra Income!  Business vendors in the Sisters in Business Holiday Shopping Showcase will also provide info about business, employment, and networking opportunities with those interested in starting a business, gaining employment, and/or making contacts for networking.  Opportunities to earn additional income for the holidays and thereafter along with other incentives can also be explored amongst participating "direct selling" or multi-level marketing type vendors.  Be sure to ask vendors about business, networking, or employment opportunities.

Top

Businesses offering direct selling opportunities provide important benefits to individuals who desire to earn an income, or build a business of their own. Direct selling offers an alternative to traditional employment for those who desire an opportunity to 1) earn a flexible income, 2) earn a supplemental household income; or 3) compensate for the responsibilities or circumstances that do not allow them to have a regular part-time or full time job. In many cases, direct selling opportunities develop into a fulfilling career for those who achieve success and choose to pursue their independent direct selling business on a full time basis.

Dr. Rumph's "Belvoir Plaza" Networking In the Community

The "Belvoir Plaza" Open House was a wonderful networking experience for host Dr. Thomas Rumph, also the owner of the new Brainerd business, and the attending guests.  Guests included SIB Network members, Chattanooga and Atlanta businesses, and community friends.  The event took place on Saturday September 15, 2007, and resulted in good attendance, and media coverage, thanks to the Tennessee Multicultural Chamber of Commerce (TN-MCC), The Courier Newspaper, Power 94 Radio, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and Brainerd News. Photos were also taken by Jim Stevens, owner of Brainerd News.

“The event worked out quite well!  And we still are building on the flow of the success.  I also think it added to me getting a write up in the Chattanooga Free Press.”  -Dr. Thomas Rumph

Said by Dr. Rumph regarding the event “The event worked out quite well!  And we still are building on the flow of the success.  I think it added to me getting a write up in the Chattanooga Free Press.”  The event yielded phone and email inquiries from individuals interested in knowing more about office space rental opportunities for the building.  Interest came from both local area Chattanooga as well as inquirers from Atlanta. Sisters In Business.Net owner Tekelia C. Kelly advertised and promoted the event for SIB Business Partner Dr. Thomas Rumph.  Success Realty Stan Brown provided tenant rental services and property information.

New Brainerd Business Spotlight:

Herman's Diner Owner Rodney Billups Opens  in New Location

Herman's Diner is owned by Rodney Billups-father, and his sons Clifford and Brian.  These entrepreneurs are among the flux of new business owners opening doors to serve customers in the Brainerd 37411 zip code area, and beyond.

Though new to the location, Herman's Diner is as seasoned a business as their delectable soul food dishes, having been in business for many years and previously moving its small Chattanooga eatery from Tunnel Boulevard to the more expansive site at 3821 Brainerd Road, the former Captain D's location.

In recognition of the Brainerd Business Community in this month's Sisters In Business.Net eNewsletter, we are happy to also spotlight Herman Diner and welcome Rodney, Clifford, and Brian to The SIB Network!

honored in Glasgow, Scotland  (as reported by Chattanooga Chamber)

A local business owner, Beverly Inman-Ebel, CEO of TLC, Talk Listen Communicate, LLC was named the recipient of the prestigious International Woman Entrepreneur of the year award given by FCEM Congress.  This past week the 52-member FCEM World Congress met in Glasgow, Scotland with representatives nominated from 61 countries.  The FCEM stands for Les Femmes Chefs D’Entreprises Mondiales (The World Association of Women Entrepreneurs).  This year’s theme “Communication in a Modern World” brought women entrepreneurs together from all around the globe. Suzanne Pease, who accepted the award for Beverly, reported that the committee’s decision for Beverly was unanimous.  “What stood out from the rest of the candidates was the amount of time Beverly devotes to helping women business owners all over the world.” Beverly left Scotland the morning prior to the award announcement to speak to a group of women business owners in Spokane Washington.

In reaction to her win, Ms. Inman-Ebel stated, “I’m honored to be recognized by my sisters from across the globe.  There are many women from 3rd world countries who are trying to raise their standard of living by becoming business owners, they are the real heroes.”
