"An information technology consultant has set herself the goal of helping other women business owners succeed through networking.
"I wonder if we are being as connected as we can be," said Tekelia C. Kelly, owner of Sisters in Business. "There are innovative women doing things independently. Networking is the key."
Ms. Kelly started Sisters in Business four months ago to bring women business owners together for monthly networking meetings. She has worked as an industrial engineer in addition to serving as a computer trainer and manager.
Sisters in Business also conducts marketing. On Thursday, the company held the first of what will be an annual trade show. Nearly a dozen of Ms. Kelly's clients displayed their products and services to local officials and members of the public at the Bessie Smith Performance Hall.  Click here to read full article.

Celebrating Freedom on The Fourth of July

Dear Sisters In Business and Friends,

I would just like to say HAPPY 4th of July (Independence Day) to everyone!  I thank God for the FREEDOM I have in Him and in this rich life that we live as American citizens.  I so honor those who have made it possible for me to have the freedoms we enjoy in this country, particularly those who have lost their lives, and the precious families who have lost their love ones in the fight for this freedom.  May God bless and keep each one of them.

This SIB Online Newsletter, the first of its kind, was actually scheduled to be published July 3, but is being published July 4th.  I remember a dear sister in Memphis, who was a teacher to my child Rachel, and a great friend--Ms. Openelle Rhodes.  She told me once, and I recall it from time to time: "The right time is when it happens."

The 4th of July date is significant to me for several reasons.  July 4th is the date that my grandmother Ms. Willie Mae Branham went home to be with the Lord from my mother's home. My grandmother was one INDEPENDENT woman.  She also was a sister in business...and so was my mother, Ms. Maelene B. Crutcher…and even my mother-in-law, also now with Lord, Mrs. Martha Kelly.  They are all like the Proverbs 31 Woman.

I have been giving thought to doing a special article, for what I hope will be the first “Ms. SIB” magazine, on the pioneers, or legacies of sisters in business from our own families. Those women who have helped shape the freedoms and opportunities we now, and equipped us to be the sisters in business we are today.  In the words of Nicole C. Muller, "take a bow for the ones that came before you."

In closing, I would like to invite you to continue experiencing this "Celebration of Freedom", as God offers this to each of us, through His Son Jesus Christ!  This celebration is ongoing at at New Covenant Fellowship Church, or St. Elmo Missionary Baptist Church.  Please click here to find out more about how you can share in this freedom.

"Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." Galatians 5:1

"Whom the Lord has set free is free indeed." John 8:36
